A friend brought me a cheap little push mower to work on said the carb needed adjusting. I start it up and it is reving high then low over and over (dont know better term). Its got a little Briggs on it with a "Pulsa-Prime" carb. So I pull out my shop manuel and it basically says clean fuel inlet screen if that doesnt work replace unit. What the heck! Why would they make such a stupid thing. I mean every carb should have some adjustment.

I guess it all goes back to you get what you pay for!

TOM

WHY they made "such a stupid thing" as non-adjustable small engine carburetors... DO NOT blame Briggs. Blame your congressmen and mine, and everyone else's who "sold out" to the "tree huggers" and gave the EPA the power to regulate OPE engines.

It's as simple as that... the EPA says small engine carbs can no longer be adjustable.

Don't have my book here but I think the pulsa prime has no adj. Check where throttle shaft goes into carb. See if you can wiggle it side to side.If you can, its sucking air causing it to surge.--If the bowel is plastic.I suggest you take carb.off engine wet one finger feel for wind direction.and throw it as far as you can the opposite way. They are a lot cheaper if you have a small engine repair shop nearby. And the only thing rebuildable is a tiney O ring inside. carb.

Is it one of those carbs that fit on the top of the gas tank ? if so clean it and put a new rubber diaphram in it.

Well... I Personally Think that theres the Common Knowledge ( Or lack there Of) that if there are SCREWS there, they are MEANT to be turned, and therefore theres the problem. People won't leave them alone, I Did TV Service, thats why You See VERY little "Adjustments" that the Dummy Average consumer can screw up! granted You guys on here Know better, But most don't and try to FIX IT. That is called surging or hunting. It can usually be traced to a pluged main jet or carb adjustment or govenor.
