Looking at digital cameras want a opinion

Been looking at digital cameras. I have three already but they are all stills. Want to occasionally post some videos.

When I was in Rochester MN a couple of weeks ago I stopped in at a photo store. The salesman showed me a Casio ex z77, samsung s850 and a fuji s5700

The fuji was the highest price (the range was from $130 to $180) Seemed to me to be the most robust and it didn't use a dedicated battery.

Does anyone here have one of these or know of something better? I will be going back in a few weeks and thought I would probably buy on that trip.

TIA

jt

Check out amazon for some good prices. I wouldn't set a lot of store in the comments about the products, but after you get some good advice and think about the model you want, amazon can save you some bucks.

I got Ms. Red a S85 Samsung for Christmas... she really likes it. Be prepared to spend some time with the manual when purchasing any of these new cameras. They are very sophisticated.

I have a Kodak DX7630. It is 6.0 meg, uses a SD card, 4X zoom, 2.5 inch screen, cost about $200 5 years ago. Takes great pictures and is VERY easy to use compared to the Sony and Fuji I looked at. This the American Falls in Niagara April 6 2008.

We have had a Fuji for 3 years now, works great. It had the best shutter speed of the ones we looked at.

We looked at, but didn't buy, a casio because the image quality was poor. The mega-pixels were ok, the lense was good, but the electronics wouldn't capture as good a picture as the other brands.

Canon is another very good brand.

I have Kodak easyshare CX7300 3.5 Meg. its nice for simple pictures and uses AA batteries. Also uses the Sd card they come in 125K to 2 Gig. takes nice pics to I have blown then up to 8X10 and they still look good but I'm not particular and use a powerful magnifying glass to look at them. If they look good at 2 to 4 ft. then why spend more bucks. If they are used on the computer you going to have cut the bytes way down anyway.

I have had a Fuji 5100 for 5 or 6 years and it has a lot of features that makes it well worth the money. The telephoto lens is great for distance shots and it can be used in the auto mode for simple picture taking with great results. I sometimes use it when dismantling machines that won't be put together right away so it helps put things together. it uses double A batteries and I have two sets of rechargeables so batteries isn't a issue. It looks a little intimidating but is a easy camera to operate and you can make some movies with it depending on how big a card you put in it. A 512MB card will give you14 minutes at320 pixels

FWIW: I am a firm believer in one that uses regular batteries. Like AA. The new "pre-charged" rechargable batteries will hold their charge for months. So if you are like me and only use the camera every month or so, you do not have to charge them up the night befor like you do the regular re-chargable ones. And yea, 3 or 4 megapixels is plenty for us commom folks, but That Fugi sounds great to me. A lot of camera for the momey.

We have that Fuji now and it is super. Does everything well. Went thru Kodak, HP, and cannon to find the right camera. Second best was the Canon. It takes great picture but lacked a fewm feature wife wanted. She loves the Fuji Henry Might add that it takes 400 or more oictures on the batteries. We use rechargables.

Panasonic SDR-S150!
No moving parts Pocket size, Great Stills and Video. 3.1 meg pixal
Read the Specs online. Is not Cheap but can be had for much less than List of $850. I got mine for $285 new std grntee. Uses little power as it stores on SD cards up to 4 gigs. Video lacks a bit in the dark. Stills great in any light has built in flash. Still pics fast repeat! 3-CCD 10x optical zoom, 30x digital.
Ruggedly constructed. Will fit in shirt pocket or front pants pocket. Is just a little bigger than a pack of Cigs.

I don"t have that particular camera, but I know from years of experience, that FUJI makes good stuff. I wouldn"t hesitate to buy it if it filled the bill of what I wanted to use it for.

I have a Fuji, Nikon & Canon Digi cam, but all are for "stills". The Canon is the top of the line in my collection.

Sony has some nice ones in the DSC line that run on AA batteries and do video.

I bought a Nikon Coolpix S51 last fall. It's a decent camera except for one annoying fatal flaw: When using the flash it puts gray circular artifacts on the pictures in random places. Nikon says it's the nature of the beast, the flash reflecting off of dust in the air. I also think that it has something to do with the chromed bezel surrounding the lens. I wouldn't buy another one. It does use a proprietary battery, but they're actually surprisingly cheap.
