How much fuel do you think NASCAR uses every week?? Racing, trucking the cars and crew..... It must be a lot and a lot of $$$$$ Of course they might get it for free. What's your thoughts about this?

How about limiting the total fuel for the 500 mile race to 25 gallons per car? Make it real.

Seems like I read that the nascar cars get about 5 mpg on the track at speed. So about 100 gallons for a 500 mile race. $5.00 dollars a gallon right now at a friend of mines fuel company. So about $500 dollars worth of fuel for the team, not including transport costs or practice laps. The real fuel waster in the equation is the 747 jumbo jets that are burning 3500 gallons per hour all over the planet 24-7 taking off every 6 seconds somewhere on the earth. 12 hour flight to Hawaii burns 40,000 gallons of fuel so foolish people can spend their money on the island for 7 days and come back to the mainland and use another 40,000 gallons getting back here. About 90% of these jets should be scrapped out asap.

There needs to be high speed rail lines set up between the main centers of the country and some method including taxes to make rail more attractive than air. It the trip takes and extra 6-18 hrs, so what. The rail link to Hawaii will take some work however. Most vacationers, business & personal traffic should be barged over there in those floating fattening pens called cruise ships.

I don't know about nascar but a nhra top fuel car burns about 13 gallons of fuel in the 2 minutes or so from the time they start them till the end of the run. Also someone below mentioned about the new baseball every time one hits the ground. That goes back to 1920 when part of the pitchers job was to make the ball as dirty and nasty as possible, spitballs etc. By the end of the game the ball wasn't even round any more and was so dirty it was very hard to see. The cleveland shortstop (Ray Chapman I think) got hit in the head so hard that the ball rebounded half way to the pitchers mound. He died the next day. That was the end of spitballs and when the league said that any ball with any dirt on it had to be replaced. Mike

Nothing stock about those cars except maybe the badge so taking the 'S' out of NASCAR makes it NACAR. The majority of the fuel is used by spectators get to and from.

There was a story about the fuel on one of the prerace shows recently. It was a huge number but don't remember what it was. In any case, you're paying for it if you use Sunoco.

from what I am told Sunoco is a U.S. based company and their fuel is priced at or less than the competitors that are based overseas. I plan on switching to Sunoco on my next tank.and if all did maybe we can keep some of the $ in the U.S. at least then I know that it has a chance in staying in our economy

Each team has sponsers that pay all, the bills.....the out side of the car is divided up into sections.....you pay money to put your name there....like Home Depot and LOWES, they pay the bigest part..... the other names pay their share.....even the tires cost them.....no free ride....the sponsers pay every penny of the total cost of the team..... There should be one car officially approved to race in NASCAR: the Toyota Prius.

Seriously, if the automakers are really trying to improve fuel efficiency of their vehicles, then why are Ford and GM in particular still building pickup trucks with such hideously large front ends that are aerodynamic disasters? Look at the Ford Super Duty for example. Sure, it looks like a tough man"s truck, but how much horsepower and fuel are wasted with that large front having to push air out of the way going down the highway at 65mph? Even the big rig builders like Kenworth have figured out how to make aerodynamic trucks.

"hideously large front ends." MY GOSH... and I thought NO ONE would EVER believe me when I was saying those trucks have hideous front ends.

First it was Dodge.. then ford progressed into a tonka toy in 2007... Now with GM, their grilles look like a hideous monster staring at you.

WHAT THE F IS WITH THESE AUTOMAKERS?

they have no sence of class big massive grills with a cars running gear, and all the reliability of a 2.95 wrist watch, they can keep them, ericlb, who is designing his own, 1938 0r 9 chevy cab and front fenders, sitting on 1 ton frame with cummins diesel, 6 speed, and dually rear end, old ford tractor red cab and hood metalic black fenders, and polished aluminum flatbed with gooseneck and fth wheel hitches as well as bumper pull, and i just might take 4" stacks with that what you all think? power, reliability good looks, about half or less the price of new, and i'll know every bolt on it

They look like that because too many owners are on an ego trip. " Hey everybody look at me, I am a rugged truck driver in my huge TRUCK which anyone would easily mistake for a 600 hp fire breathing big rig, even though it really is a plush weenie 1/2 ton."

LOL ;-)

"plush weenie half ton" That's certainly about the size of it! All for the dandy price of 35,000.

I WILL, and repeat- WILL continue to buy used until there's no hope of buying used anymore.

I always thought the teams say NASCAR charges them for everything, at every chance. Think they pay for their racing fuel.

The parking lot full of cars to come see the race uses more fuel that the race cars do.

OK we shut down all racing and outdoor sports and see how many people are put out of work and see what that will do to the economy. Ever watch Ben Hur, racing has been around for thousands of years and don't expect it to go away in my lifetime.
I was drag racing back in the 60's when gas was about the same as it now adjusted to inflation.

My understanding is that the gas used in the race is provided free. The teams have to buy their fuel for their transport rigs, etc but of course they have sponsors. Who ultimately pays for the fuel_ of course its us through higher prices for the items we buy that the team sponsors sell.

Strictly talking from my A**. I would say the first 1500 seats sold would pay for tires/fuel. Then again some tracks have over 100k seats. Now throw in the T-shirt, Hat, Jacket etc...sales ( Guy next door had it all down to his boxers with his guys color and number, then what the sponsors pick-up its HUGE Money. As soon as a ball hits the ground in baseball, out comes a new ball. Family of 4 to see a Red Sox game close to $350.00, they sell out, just like NASCAR events do.
