I just got the bill for my starter fertilizer--$1000/ton with a discount.
What are others paying?

I am a firm believer that high oil prices are responsible for high food prices(ie high production costs) Some people try to lay it off on ethanol but I don"t think it is responsible. Here in north Alabama there is alot of corn already planted.

Last week I bought 33# bags of 12-12-12 for about $8.00/bag or roughly $480.00/ton if my math is right. I got it at a hardware store similar to TSC, only smaller.

Liquid Nitrogen is $.68/lb. in SW Manitoba. You guys are now paying what we were paying two years ago. The world hasn't come to an end yet either.

Jeezus guys you gotta be kiddin me!!!? I remember during the 70's oil crisis we thought $180 to $240 a T was absurd with corn prices at over $3 a bushel. Gawd that's awful!

Fertilizer, fuel, herbicides, and seed has all gone up drastically in the past 18 months.

Now everyone is complaining that food is too high. Jobs are going away, housing market is terrible, dollar is worthless, and nothing the govt can do to fix those things. But, they can easily change grain prices, drop them 1/3 with the single pen stroke, and make all those voters happy.

For the time being.

It will wreck USA agriculture, and we will all be eating our Brazilion food in 5 years, at whatever price they want to charge us.... But, the voters will be happy for this election period.
