Well, some of you guys in the upper corn belt have been talking about having trouble getting into the field. I just planted some garden corn and I am about a month late here in SC. Guess we can see which corn matures first. I chisel plowed the garden while it was dry last fall, talked relative with spreader truck into bring me a load of fresh chicken litter(from a laying operation so it was the pure stuff) put some on the garden and the rest on part of a pasture, then harrowed under the garden. Then we put leaves and old hay on the garden. This spring it has been too cold or too wet or I have been too busy until today. Ground is really too wet, but I laid off rows with a hoe and did my best. Put some turkey litter under the rows. Planted Merit sweet corn and some open pollinated corn I sort of selected over the years to get yellow seed for meal. Now it will probably turn dry again. There were some LARGE earthworms under those leaves.
