Picked up a reman starter this afternoon, installed and fired right up. Why are they always easier to remove than put back together? That starter is kind of heavy and I was kind of tired from trying to hoist it around in uncomfortable positions. Could have used a third hand. Didn't really help that I am a pretty good sized guy and I barely fit under the Suburban.

As usual, I appreciate the help here,

Kirk

I've not had good luck on gear reduction starters on my 5.7 or 6.2 gm diesels. Been there, done that on replacing the starters on the '84 GMC pickup - probably a lot like yours, with the addition of a 4wd driveshaft in the way! no fun!

I see your luck is better than mine glad it was the starter you could have upgraded to the gear reduction unit that is lighter and ALOT smaller then the original I guess the hardest starter I had to put on was on a 84 Mercury Capri had to lift the engine a little because it had custom exhaust which I found out made it impossible to take the starter straight back or down had to take it out the front. A friend of mine told me it was still hard on the original exhaust. It was a 5.0 like the Mustangs

Once had to replace a starter in an 88 Olds. Angle parked at the curb with 4 inches snow. On the Old, you had to drop the exhaust pipe to get it in there. Oh, the things I did when young. Kennyp

I'm not so young anymore, just really hate spending money on stuff I can get done myself. Sometimes I end up wishing I had just spent the cash, but this was pretty painless. I was not really expecting the starter to be a problem since it had been rebuilt 3-4 years ago. That is why I went for the reman this time, it has a lifetime warranty.

I HOPE it's not as good as the Intercour$e Battery I just tried to get warranty on!

It's a 72-month battery with almost 30 months left. One dealer simply refused to honor the warranty at all, the other offered about $24 off of a new battery, but only off of the LIST price which was over $20 higher than his "cash" price.

In other words, about $4 off for a battery that is only 58% "used up". WOW, WHAT a warranty!

Is this typical Intercour$e battery dealer BS?

I wonder if it would do any good to (female dog)directly to Intercour$e about this?

on battery warranties... in reply to Bob, 05-06-2008 18:53:34
You are getting jacked around because you are probably dealing with a mom n' pop. On a 72 month battery, it's usually 36 months free replacement/prorated after. It should be a direct % against PURCHASE PRICE, not list nor current sales price. There should be no core charge, since you are turning in the warranty battery. Although I sell Exide, unlike the poster below I would have no problem with a DieHard. Available at Sears or k-mart now, made by JCI- and they expect 15% to come back as warranty claims, so if it tests bad they have no hesitation about warranty claim. They had their TV issue on battery warranties about 10 years ago, and their process on batteries is always in the customers' favor.

Stay away from Intercour$e and Die Easy batteries and your life will be less stressful.

You got 3 1/2 years use out of a 6 year battery, which is over half. That is the point of no return on any battery warrantee from any company. Have someone at NAPA or CarQuest explain how batteries are warranteed.
