looks like some areas of the US are soaked with no end in sight. Are any of you all changing your acreage plans? Or are you getting as much people and equipment on the starting line so you can go like all heck? I am dry here, my biggest hindrence has been know how.

Here are a couple pictures from today; I just finished 65 acres with the anhydrous ammonia applicator. The soil in the Red River Valley of MN & ND is dark & rich & deep! This field will be corn this year. The tractor is a Steiger Panther III.

well once i get done milking in the morning, i'm gonna disc like a sonofagun to get one field done so i they can spread lime on it so i candrill my oats in before the afternoon rain. otherwise one of my buddies suck my 4020 last night hauling manure piles outthat was fun to get out.

Well all the wet weather should be good for hay, but the garden will be delayed for at least a week.

Here in South central Wisconsin, the crummy weather has been a bit of a blessing in disguise for me since I'm still getting the planter set up for corn. The springs have just started to stop flowing so if we get only limited rain the next few days, I might be able to make a go of it. It feels more like April 20th, not May 9th!

There was an interesting article in Agri-View last week that showed that given all the other factors that can occur during any given year, it's a pig and a poke whether planting May 1st or May 15th really helps yield.

It's just a 4 row White planter with a 3 row interplant attachment for doing 15" beans.

I'm not from the US, but seeding is right on or ahead of schedule in Manitoba. Emergence will be slow, due to cooler than normal temp. Things are pretty dry here, but a timely rain or two in the next two weeks would cure that. I expect we'll take what we get.

Nope,

Winter wheat still goes in on the 10th of Sept. no matter what. I like the rain because it greens things up. Helps melt the snow too. :>)

Darned summer fallow ground is making me a little nervous tho; turning green with weeds, but betcha I have a red toy that will do 'em in. :>)

Allan, I still don't understand what "summer fallow" is. Cover crop as part of your rotation? What is the rotation out there? Here for us in Indiana it used to be beans to corn with some wheat thrown in there every once in a while on the poor ground. Boy things have changed, have done three years of corn in a few places that produce good. Love to shell corn, hate the N prices. Sure do like that a semi trailer full is $6k a pop at the elevator and it doesn't take too long for the 2188 to fill that up.

Summer fallow is just leaving a field bare so you can get two years worth of rain stockpiled in the soil. As the weeds germinate you have to till the surface of the soil to keep them from using up the water, but you dont want to till too deep so as to not bring up moist soil to evaporate.

I only do hay so thats ot a problem its growing well but is very wet. Now my garden on the other hand I haven't been able to get it planted yet. My garden should be full right now but with temps. like they have been and the rain which has been to much ha slowed planting the garden on hold

I have two fields of corn to go. Both have some wet spots. Going to try one today and maybe move over to the other side of town. 2t2 worked the one up yesterday and says the wet spot in it is definatly a no go. I can get to it when the corn is in so it may go to beans.

The wet stuff on the other side of town is inaccesable so it may not get planted.

Going to neice's and nephews college & trade school grad this weekend but it sounds like rain so I shouldn't miss much.

Not going to change acres much as the anhydrous/dry is on and paid for. Can't afford to not raise king corn on those acres.

yep...yesterday's tornadoes destroyed two of my boarder's homes and put my garden underwater. probably delayed haymaking for another week- everyone out here was fixin' to cut this weekend.

I know most on here plant corn, beans, and wheat.

I do landscape trees. I plant as soon as I can get in the field without sticking the tractor. I have had my trees in the ground since April 18th, and had only really one good rain on May 6th. Would like a lot more rain. All the guys doing row crops are planting full tilt right now.

I really feel bad for you guys that are still waiting. I know it is unbearable at times. I was able to finish about midnight last night. What a relief. Seems like when we have a spring like this all I can think about is what if we get rained out for a month, then what. They are not calling for rain here until the weekend but there is light rain west of us right now. I dont remember what year it was but we have planted corn the first of june and it was ok. The yield loss is noticeable but with the NH3 on you are committed. The other thing that is a pain is that it takes so long for the corn to dry down in the fall. bill

Appears to be the same pattern as last year, we're missing most of the rain storms coming out of the south to the midwest, just getting left overs, broken up storms, but after years of being drenched, it's kind of nice, still holding plenty of moisture, had a good soaker less than 2 weeks ago, it's getting dry, still tillage and planting of corn going on, my neighbor has probably put another 100 acres back in service, might be over the 600 acre mark this year, he snagged another big field left dormant, kind of near the largest dairy in town, looks like anywhere you can put corn it's going in. Meanwhile back here, the oats are coming up, and sprouted, he must have really laid that seed in, and under as I thought something was going awry there, geese are dodging my lead to keep em off the sprouts, 1x in the morning and 1x pm is the best I can do, might need a scarecrow or something, they need to go, 40 breeding pairs x 6 each when they hatch, that's out of control!

Grasses are doing well, but not like when we got the rains in years past, time to start mowing fields again though, we do need some rain on those oats right now, but I think that system headed east will miss us as the radar is showing.

My corn is done, About 1/2 hr left at the neighbors, Got rained out about 3;00 yesterday. Would have been nice to get done so I could switch the planter over to beans while it is raining, But I'm not complaining, Just thankful to get this far. Never got in a full day of planting 8-10 hr at best then a little shower to shut things down for a couple hrs. Got 1 inch last night and 80% chance for tomorrow.

yea, rain, rain, rain here in north central kentucky

disc mower is serviced, hooked-up and waiting, baler is serviced and waiting, grass for hay is as thick and ready as I"ve ever seen it - going to seed

Corn has been planted but I"m worried that the seed will rot in the ground before it sprouts.

If we get to May 25 or so, they may rethink planting beans instead of corn, but not till then.

Planters are starting to roll here in SE Iowa finally.

Rain is in the forecast for this weekend.

Seems like we only get about 1 or 2 days running between rains.
