Here is a pic of a couple of antelope my son took yesterday:

And an old rooster looking for something to drink:

And here is a typical dryland wheat crop in our area this year - this farmer is as good as any in our area - the strip of wheat is where the plow left a shallow depression as he turned, causing it to collect a little more moisture over the year - if it weren't for that, you couldn't even tell it was a crop! :(

(the wheat behind the antelope is irrigated)

We don't have many rabbits around our farm.

The field rats and mice are also scarce.

Below is a picture of one of our red-tailed hawks.

We have one very large hawk that comes around when I'm mowing the fields.

Seems like when the tractor comes around some of the 'critters' think it is meal time.

We don't see very many rabbits around our place - too many coyotes. The latest addition at our farm in E. Tx is a pair of roadrunners. They're not afraid of us and usually show up when they hear a tractor. The have a good time and a good meal with all the bugs scared up by the tractor. If I ever get my computer back and get the pictures downloaded, I'll post some pix.

IaGary;

Nothing like a little "beagle music" first thing in the morning. My beagle just bawls--sounds like someone killing him. The first time my Kansas friend heard him hot on a track, he said, "If that was my dog I'd wonder what the H@## was wrong with him!" Here, if you don't hunt rabbits in the winter, you don't hunt. All the other season close. Either that, or go out of state.

Next weekend it will be the Canada Geese leading their newly hatched broods back and forth across the roads on the long weekend. Makes for traffic jams, screaming tires & brakes. Vehicles run off into ditches or into each other to dodge birds. We have small but new double dents in the hood of the van from where two flew geese up in front of us from the shoulder of the road. Cops and highway personal will spend about the next two weeks responding to calls to assist geese across the highway. Bunnies are cute little beggers, want some? The kid's buck and doe got loose and were later seen relaxing, smiling and smoking a cigarette.

Dang geese!Dang deer! I have been haying the 10 acre field down at the widows place. It used to be 800 bales or so.Now 12 to 15 deer call it home along with about 45 geese. The hay crop is mighty sparse this year.I don't have the money or time to deer fence it and the geese think it's a big joke when I try to chase them away!

Yeah, they're already in the oats over here, (which are doing well). I nailed 3 full broods of em early this morning chased the adults back out. According to Federal & NYS DEC rules not requiring any permits for taking live ones that cause appreciable monetary loss from ag damage, I've got an out to deal with them, so I'm using it and it's without any harm to em which is a good thing even though they're pests, just as easy to take em to the next pond over where they can't return here, also a whole lot of grazing over there, same adults fly back and forth to the same pond, somehow I think it will all work out for em, but not really sure how many more broods are out there yet, 20 something acres of water here and almost 40 pairs of adults counted, this field would not stand a chance, don't have much time to deal with it either, been a real pain to stay on top of them.

That's the way they are around here. And the turkeys come in the yard and hiss at me. My bottle calf lays around the doorstep like a dog. pretty wild and wooly. Yeah, my bobcat came back home yesterday. He has been off catting for a week or so.

We had rabbits like that around here till my daughter next door got a beagle.

The rabbits are very fast now.

He ain't caught one yet but when he gets on a trail the howling begins. Kinda cute.

That's a no stress rabbit, they do the same thing here, closer to the house, take any trail down the hill to the fields, and at about the same time everyday, you'll see the same ones doing just that, they get used to you. Always was told they are too delicate to deal with, but had an orphan just old enough, must have been off the milk, for about 2 weeks after feeding handfuls of clover, he was ready to go, playful little tike too.

Deer and antelope are the same way; they know I'm not gonna hurt 'em.

Had a cock pheasant in the middle of the road the other day. He just flat wouldn't move, wouldn't get out of the way and I had to almost clear stop and drive around the joker. :>)
