Ok, this is a question about a Massey 3690 tach. How many volts does the tach needs to operate correctly? To those who didn see a message of mine a while ago, to make a long story short, the foreign alt. fried and we put a delco on. Now the tach is hooked. I hope some of you can answer. Thanx

Maybe this'll help. Alternators produce high voltage AC current that is then run through a rectifier, and regulator (or diodes) that change it to DC. Most alternator run tachs use the AC voltage to run the tach. I'm not sure of the specific voltages used, but this is how it was explained to me. My suggestion would be to take it, both alternator and tach to a good auto/marine electrical shop or rebuilder and let them figure it out for you.

you are asking how much voltage is on the circuit that makes your electronic tach function? i sure don't know, it may even be grounding to count RPM. delco alt. may not operate tach designed for another charging system. ask on massey board to see if anyone has done this. good luck-paul

How many volts is the tractor designed towards? The alternator output is a good indicator of what the complete system needs. 12 volts if its a 12 volt system. The alternator will have a full output of 13.8 to charge a 12 volt system.
