spook never buy gravel by the yard, there is no way to "prove" you got a full measured yard, 3x3x3] in other words you may have ordered 10 yards, but is it ten? or only 9? we always sell any material by the ton, and provide a computer printed weight ticket to the customer, it shows the time of day, what the truck weighs empty, and what it weighs loaded, you pay for the difference, so you only pay for what you actually recieve. yes the price is high now mostly due to the cost of diesel, [ cost is not only the delivery truck, but all the equipment used to manufacture the gravel too], but our good government went one better, as of several years ago all gravel pits are now declared 'open pit mines' and must be permited and inspected as such, and must meet all mining safety codes [MSHA] except underground parts [unless there is underground activity] this is extreamly expensive, you think OSHA is strict?just wait untill you meet the boys from MSHA! and the worst part is for all the stupid type safety rules to be in the book, somebody in the U.S. has actually done those things and got themselves killed doing it, its bad about the prices though we're seeing a lot of one load type people that are regulars that just can't afford to buy our product now, but we cant pay our bills if we make it any cheaper either
