I think 11 is awful young to be using that equipment unsupervised.

I feel badly for the family, but 11 does seem a little young to operate a machine by himself. Still a tragedy nonetheless.

AZ had a 14yo girl die last week-end on a ATV while riding triple seated, one 15yo and one 13yo, and hit a tree. The 13yo was driving.

Her father stated he couldn't see how she died as she was wearing a helment!

My first tractor drive at 14yo was a old JD with a 6ft mower attached. I'm sure glad that mower was attached as I crossed my first irrigation ditch or I could have been the one you guys are reading about. No instructions of any kind from my grandfather. Of course I lied and said I had driven one before :)

What a tragedy to see such a young life cut short. My thoughts and prayers go out to the boy's family.

And let's all do what we can to make sure this doesn't happen again: If you have a youngster operating any kind of equipment -- even a lawnmower -- continually emphasize safety and taking the time to do things right.

To prevent another tragic loss is the best legacy this poor lad could have.

<--- Forgive him, Lord, for he knows not what he says...

Some day, son, your life will be touched by tragedy. When that day comes and *you* are the grief-stricken one, I pray that you will be surrounded by people who show more sympathy and sensitivity than you have displayed in our forum this afternoon.

Pax vobiscum.

As for God's master plan, none of us can say. That is for Him alone to know.

As for the here and now, do the best you can. One day we will be called to judgement.

This country isn't exactly "free". You see, many thousands of women and men over the years toiled to bring this country to what it is now.

I sure reckon you could show a little more respect for the circumstances here too, retard.

Just watch it... and yes, i'm preachin' because it's a 'free' country... right Jimbob?

No, i'm not oprah or Dr. Phil or even the wonderful reverend wright. I'm just human.

A number of years ago, a fellow in our neighborhood thought his 13 year old son was ready to send out in the field alone with a 4020 and an 18 foot disc.

He wasn't.

I feel badly not only for the family but the entire community. Something like that affects everyone.

I always wonder about ROPS, seatbelt usage, etc. when I read of such.

Saw someone zipping around on a compact tractor mowing a lawn the other day.

Had the seatbelt on.

Had the ROPS folded down.

I know I had to be taught that the danger in that situation is you will be crushed, since you don't even have a chance of being thrown clear.

Not sure how you educate everyone.

I don't think the tractor actually rolled up side down. I (think) by the video and pictures that roll over means the tractor rolled (moving)over him. Like maybe not locking the brakes before getting off the tractor. I am not saying that is what happened just something I have done in the past and had to jump back on the tractor and to keep it from rolling into what I was hooking to.

Tragic for sure and something to keep in mind and talk to young and old about. All of us need to think about all that can happen while we are operating any piece of equipment. Thinking of what could go wrong before and as we operate any machinery.
On another board an Ohio man is just home from an arm being patched and screwd back togather after getting caught in a bailer. I almost lost the use of my left hand in a combine about ten years back. All of which is a lack of fore thought.
