Does anybody have any ideas on what to invest in? I have been in mostly fixed income stuff for months. I keep thinking about getting back in, but it just gets weird.

Americans are funny people when it comes to investing. We buy when the market in high because we don't want to be left behind. But, we don't buy when equities are "on sale" in a down market ?? Very good time to be buying for long term. I have some fun money in alternative energy in Broadwind BWEN a very small Wi. company that does wind towers and Miscor MIGL that overhauls locomotives and is growing rapidly in maintenance and overhaul of wind generators. Both are lightly traded OTC but pretty neat companies. Do your own due diligence.

Just a guess but I just bought more Allis Chalmers Energy this week. It has dropped a bunch and I am sure that that drilling will soon take off in a big way. Allis Chalmers Energy (ALY) is one of the best companies for drillers to go to for drilling supplies. At below 12 bucks I am hoping for it to go above 40 in less than a year. Time will tell. They have to drill to get natural more natural gas.

I'd be careful. I think this dip is due to us, or Israel, getting ready to strike Iran. Gonna cause more BIG problems with oil. Many are, and have been, saying it's going to be any day now.

Gold may still be the way to go for the near future. Even if it doesn't go up, it's a hedge against a falling dollar.

just my $0.02.

I sure dont have a clue, but I decided that with the Dow under 11200 I needed to be in. Whatever the crowd is running from that has solid fundamentals is what I try to buy. I called today with a buy order on a large cap growth fund and mid cap growth and income fund. Normally I avoid those funds like the plague but with the market down they seem to have the most upside potential. I may be dead wrong but I see 12200 more likely in a year than 10200.

That's what i have done in the past. I always believed in buy and hold. Trouble is the life expectancy of that strategy seems to be life of an insect. I watch Cramer on tv, he talks about never holding anything more than 18 months. That seemsto be more trading, not investing.

Hi Spook,

If you figure it out, let me know as this is a tuff market to be in.

My thoughts on blue chips.

The way I see it, if I pick right, it'll be 1 to 2yrs before a good return can be made.

If I pick in the middle, then it'll be 3 to 4yrs before a good return can be made.

I just hope I don't pick a flat liner that gets kicked off the Dow after 5yrs of no growth.

Until abuses in the market are addressed such as naked shorting, dilution without shareholder approval, etc. you may want to stand pat.

So what's your recommendation, then, a coffee can in the backyard? Or maybe the front yard is a better investment?
