After new regulator has been installed and grounded, connect cables to the battery again, before starting engine you, must polarize the generator to match battery. Momentarily touch one end of a piece of wire (your supply) to regulator terminal marked "arm" or "gen" and the other end of that piece of wire to the terminal marked "bat" then remove. A spark will occur when wire is removed. This is natural. HOWEVER, DO NOT TOUCH "FLD" TERMINAL. IF YOU DO, THE REGULATOR WILL BE INSTANTLY RUINED. Hope this helps.
