Hood grill on an early A?

I am in the process of rebuilding/restoring a 1940 Farmall "A". This is the style that has the dzus fasteners that hold down the hood and grill. When I picked this tractor up, it was missing the grill and the hood isnt in very good shape either. I scrounged up a grill off of a IH power unit and was going to use it, but it just doesnt quit fit right. And forget about trying to put the hood on if the grill is on because you cant get both dzus clips on without a fight. The grill has a small stepped flange around the top and the hood sits on top of the flanged area. If I leave the grill off, then the hood fits nice and snug like it should. Does any one know if the original grill had the stepped flange?, or was the grill and hood butted up against each other instead of the hood overlapping the grill? I would like to replace the hood and grill, but all I can find are the ones that use the quick clips underneith. Can I use the latter style hood and just drill holes in the corners and reuse the dzus clips? Man, this is going to drive me nuts, can anyone help me out here? I could use some info and maybe a few JPEG's to clue me in. Thanks for your time. Steve T
