Hi Shawn, I have a 48 also, first thing to consider has anyone changed it to a coil. If not then you have to time the magneto to the engine timing. Be safe and take the center wire off the distributer cap, loosen up magneto and swing it all the way towards engine block, then slowly turn engine by hand till you line up pointer on pully. Now swing magneto slowly away from block till you hear the magnet slap, now make sure rotor is pointing at no.1 on dist.cap. Tighten down magneto, put the center wire back on and give it a try.
