If you are using double acting cylinders (that is power in and out) the displacement difference is the volume of the cylinder ROD inside the cylinder when retracted. There is always oil on both sides of the piston. It is not very much and 2.5 gallons is more than adequate for four cylinders on a loader sized for a 300. I believe the live pump puts out 11 gallons per minute. The 300 and 300U were designed for loader work.
