If someone's been farming with it seriously for any length of time during the last 30 to 40 years, you can almost bet the manifold has been changed to the gasoline unit. The carb may well be the original, and it will work fine. The original carb for these units has a little petcock on the outside lower part of the float bowl. This petcock was to drain any "distillate" out of the carb that was left in it when the engine was shut off, so it could be started on gasoline the next time. Lots of these tractors came with a mag instead of battery ignition, and in those cases, lots of farmers just turned off the valve under the tank and walked away with them still running. When the carb ran out of fuel, they quit, and the carb was empty. One downside to these tractors was the low-compression head on the engine. Unless someone has changed the head, or installed high-compression pistons, the tractor will not develop quite as much power as a similar gas tractor. I've got a '43H with this setup, and it served us well for a long time, but never had quite the kick of the neighbor's gas model.
