Bob- Thanks for the good post. I've come to the conclusion that all things going the best spark ignition system is the mid-seventies GM HEI system.

That coil operated by it's electronic module put out fantastic spark power. The weak point was that it was touted as "maintenance free", but the distributor rotor burned thru a thin spot when plug wires went open/high resistance. Some outrageously wide (up to 0.080") plugs gaps added to problems.

Needed is a "conversion kit", that provides the magnetic pulse generator that triggers the module. After that it becomes a bolt on common off the shelf parts situation.

Very simple, very reliable, and relatively inexpensive... I'm still pondering this idea as something to do. IHank
