Joe, Everyone has an opinion on this subject...here's mine. It is offered for whatever it is worth. The stamped numbers yours has on it are the only important thing. If it is legible, it should be saved and proudly displayed. OK, OK, I confess...I sometimes remove the plates and straighten and polish them. After the tractor is repainted, I re-install them using the SAME rivets. (I polish the rivets too) The 'rivets' are really escutcheon pins that are driven into holes in the cast iron like nails...they just fit real tight in the holes. The plate for the tricycle Cub is restored and ready to re-install after the painting is finished. It will be the ORIGINAL plate for the 1948 tractor, even though the tractor is much modified.
