Yeah, A W-6 can't be a Farmall 'cause it ain't. Farmalls are row crop tractors. W series were "standard tractors" and said so on 'em. I spent a lotta days on a 1948 McCormick-Deering W-6, it had 14-30 rear tires, 600-16 fronts, no hydraulics of any kind, but was a pleasure to plow with, with the wide, but not too wide front end. The whole tractor was just wide enough, but not too wide like an M was for plowing. A pretty nice tractor for field work, except when you double kitty-cornered a field disking or springtooth draggin, 'cause when you crossed a dead furrow you'd better hang on or you'd find out how hard the fenders were. I used to stand up a lot, just set down to brake her when you turned.
The standards became "McCormick" tractors in 1949 or 1950 and the decals and the front aluminum nameplate were changed, I guess it was when IH decals got the new logo "IH"
W-6s were 3 plow size, W-4s were 2 plow size, and used M and H engines and a lot of common drive line parts. W-9s had no row crop equal, and were rated 4-5 plow. I got to run one of them once in a while and at the time it seemed like one "big hoss".
Those were good days really, it was a good job to run one of the International built tractors, they all handled good, made a good sound and they looked good, we thought we had it made.
