I went to the IH dealer today to buy seals. I looked at the parts book and there is indeed an inner seal at the transmission. It must be holding because there are no leaks around the axle housing and nothing is coming out the ends where I took off the outboard seal holders. I am going to just replace the outboard seals and shoot it full of grease. I do have a transmission leak somewhere at the back in the PTO area. Have not cleaned that up enough yet to figure out where it is coming from. I suspect the PTO seal, or maybe the gasket where it mounts. The guy I bought the tractor from claimed the tranny had been rebuilt because a bolt had been dropped in it and it got in and ruined the trans. Maybe he replaced the inner seals then. Anyway, the transmission does not make excessive noise and shifts and pulls ok.
