If I understand you correctly, it sounds as if you didn't get a large enough/correct diameter tap if you are not getting the threads to clean up.If your problem is not getting threads to go deep enough in to the hole because the tap is tapered at the tip you can #1, get a bottom tap or#2, grind off the taper on the end and make it a bottom tap ...... hope this helps Geo.
