There were several types of mounted cultivators for H's and M's. HM238 and HM438 types have diagonal braces that run from the outer ends of the front main struts to a bracket that fastens to the steering bolster at the two attatching points through the two side-by-side holes up about 2/3rds up on the front of the grill. Each of the front gang members usually have two or three shanks and the rear gangs that follow the center and rear wheels have one shank each. When we bought our tractors, many styles of cultivators were available, for the '40 H we got the "swing gang" steer-able style 2row. I learned to cultivate with them and didn't like 'em much, so on the later '50 H and my own Super M, 438 types were used and I thought they were very good. Hope this helps you.
