Headlight switch terminals

My cub came to me with no headlights or headlight wiring. It is a 50's cub. The switch is a three position unit with a big alum knob, and looking at the back of the switch there is a term. #3 at 12 o'clock, a unmarked term. at 1 o'clock with a flat jumper to #1 term at 5 o'clock. Next I have a term #2 at 6 with another unmarked at 7. Then at 9 o'clock there is a unmarked term. with a spring wound res. that goes back to #3 I can get the lights to work using my cont. tester but I am unsure what the spring is for. My cub is now 12v neg ground if that makes a diff.
