If you are talking about the plug on top of the transmission near the gear shift, that is the fill plug and not for checking level. The level plug is located on the left side near the front of the transmission. If is behind the brake rod on that side and you may have to take the brake rod loose to get to it. The transmission level should be up to the bottom of the hole when the plug is out. When filling the transmission fill it until oil comes out the hole. If you are changing the transmission oil, you can use either 90w transmission oil or HyTran tractor fluid. I don't know the capacity, since I don't have a Super A anymore. The 90w will be cheaper and will work fine. If you change the fluid in the hydraulic unit, use HyTran tractor fluid. Also, the Super A has a final drive for each wheel that is not connected to the transmission. Each of the final drives must be filled and checked separately from the transmission. The plugs for these is under the tractor near where the drawbar fastens to the tractor. The level should be up to the bottom of the fill plug. There is not a drain plug for the final drives. To drain the final drives, you have to remove the pans that cover the bull gears. If you decide to remove those, go buy some gaskets at the IH dealer before you do it. Hope this helps.
