It sounds like what you have on there is an overruning clutch. Can you turn it one direction but not the other when the engine is off and the PTO is in gear?? If so, it is an overrunning clutch. It should have a grease fitting or maybe two on it, or a grease fitting on one side and a plug on the other. Take out the grease fittings and/or plug. There is a roll pin in there that goes through the hole in the PTO shaft and holds it on. Just take a punch and drive it out. It's normal, I think for the overunning clutches to have some play, therefore, not very good for attaching a v belt pully. Sounds like someone may have put a non standard setup on there for the Woods mower. Do you have the manual?? I don't know about the B, but on the Super A, the Woods mower runs off the belt pulley shaft and not off the PTO. I would think the B would do the same, ...but maybe not.
