686 didnt have a T/A, 696 had the T/A, Both had D-310, 766 had the D-310 with more HP. 866 & 766,696,686 same chassis, 976 used the larger axles from the 1066/1466 1066/86 & above were full imports,had a U in the serial num.smaller models were built in geelong,victoria ,They have A in the serial num will have to check a book here when the 86 went out we bought our 886 series B in 82 but I think 84 rings a bell, 5000 series released in 1982 5088,5288,5488 Snoopy,s were released in 1980 3388,3588 I think the last petrol powered tractors sold by IH under here was the AW6, Cost of fuel was a lot higher, Hope I have answered all of your questions, feel free to ask

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
