Run the hot wire from the ignition switch to the - connection on the coil. The other connection(+) should go to the distributor. These two connections are each end of a coil of wire in the "coil". To check the coil, hook a spark plug up to the big wire coming from the coil and ground the threaded part of the spark plug. Then ground the wire going to the distributor momentarily. Whe you remove the ground you should see a spark across the plug gap. The coil makes a spark when the current through it is interrupted. Buying a new coil is senseless unless the old one is bad, and they are easy to check. A bad looking wire from the coil to distributor also may be OK but is cheap to replace. If you have put in new points and adjusted them properly, unhook the condenser, even if it is new it may be bad. You will still get a spark with the condenser unhooked. After you get a spark from the main coil wire, you can trace the problem through the rotor and cap if it still exists. Do start with new spark plugs. Good ones go bad sitting sometimes.
