At that time the casting code carried the date. You should be able to find a code stamped 12 34 56 at the top right corner of the block on the LH side. You will have to figure out which comes first day or month but I am sure the year is the last two digits. The transmission tub also has a date cast in it on the bottom near where the wishbone bolts to the tub. Only the major components had a date on them at that time.
