Ron, I have owned a 424 for a year and the one I purchased was not given much TLC, but it starts in -20 degree weather and is surprisingly powerful for its size. I just changed the trans diff. oil and if you have just a straight trans. no reverser or constant running pto. look on right side as you sit on tractor and by the foot board you will see a plug. remove and fill too that level. If you have a reverser and or constant PTO look on left side as you sit on tractor by the foot rest and find a plug. Then fill until oil runs out. If you have a loader and front pump fill too within 6 inches of the fill plug on the top trans case. Hope this helps, but I also recmend a manual from Binder books, Very good and complete copies, you can find them at this site. BCB
