WHEN DID THE FARMALL A GO FROM NON-ELECT TO ELECT

I have a 1940 farmall A that does not have any
electrics..just a mag which is what I want.
The question is "Did Farmall produce only
non-electric's to a certiain year and then go
to battery or was there a mix in production". I
assume electrics came in after since my tractor
does not have a spot for a starter. If they were
building both ways on line I assume they would have put a plate over the starter hole like they
did later on. When was the starter added?
