Put the compression release lever in the starting position (this is the position that it latches into against spring tension. It may be either forward or back depending on the linkage). Put the main throttle in the off position. Pull out the choke and hit the starter. Most of these engines don't need much choke unless it is really cold out. Let it run on gas about a minute and then move the main throttle to idle and move the compression release to the opposite extreme, and you will be running on diesel. If it is around 30 degrees you may want to let it run on gas for two to three minutes and if it's around the zero mark you may want to run it for for or five on gas. You will get used to listening for the fast idle RPM on gas. It will slowly increase as the engine warms up, and when it stops increasing is usually when I switch to diesel. When you get ready to shut it off, reverse the above procedure and let it run a few seconds on gas to clean off the spark plugs. Write me direct if you have any other questions. Brian
