Wheeew....100 miles from the arctic circle??? Well...I this situation, I would recommend a 12 volt system because they do start better in the cold. Other than that it is a matter of tuning and timing and good electrical connections. First, go with 0 guage cable from battery to ground and battery to starter. You may want to go with 2 guages larger on all wires to boot. Make sure your starter is in good shape...if it is as important as you say, have it rebuilt. New spark plugs, plug wires, coil, distributor cap, rotor, condensor, and points will help. Make sure your static timing is set to fire at TDC. Set plugs at .025 and points at .017 -.020 .017 there is a lot of slop in the distributor cam. Gas Farmalls / IHs are very good starters if they are properly tuned, but just like everything else, if you have marginal to poor parts, it does not work as well....from the heart of dixie....BB
