I rebuilt the hydraulic pump(replaced the O-rings) on an IH 424 Utility and noticed not long afterward that the crankcase oil level was very high and realized that hydraulic fluid got in there somehow. I took the pump off, and saw that the oil seal moved out of its seat and got torn up. I got another seal and was extra careful when I installed it. Once again, I had hydraulic fluid in the crankcase soon afterword. I posted this problem on the "tractor talk" board several weeks ago. I got several replies that suggested that the pump was worn to the point where the pressure behind the seal was too great and is pushing the seal out. Since I didn't have this problem prior to my messing with the pump - I can't understand why this would be as I have been very careful to clean and reassemble the pump. So I gave it one more try - and just yesterday it blew again! Any suggestions on my next steps before I buy a new pump? Any suggestions on where to get a pump at the best price? Thanks for the help! - Steve in MD
