As Dan said, the Ford unit should work fine. For some reason, Ford seems to mount theirs off the starter and call it a "relay" while GM mounts it on the starter and calls it a "solenoid". If you are running a 6V system, the Ford 6V relay also has a pushbutton on one end that can be used as a remote starter switch. The 12V versions I have seen don't have this.
