Tire Chains

OK- So this is one of those dumb questions! But anyway- This lasy weekend I was "Up North" to my land. There is still a lot of snow so I wanted to try out me new snowblower on my Farmall 560. Was not getting traction so I deceided that I would put on the "new" set of used chains. I'm used to chains with one long chain on each side and small chains that connect the 2. The "new" set has 3 long chains and small chains that connected them all. Problem was that the middle chain was not long enough to go around the tire. I just couldn't get them to work. The implement dealer said that they were for a 15.5X38 tire (which have). What am I doing wrong?
