Originally the tractor was positive ground. If it has the original generator and is still 6 volt it will work either way. If it has a regulator (rather than a cut out relay), some of the older regulators are specified as for positive or for negative ground. Newer ones work either way. Older ones will work, but may have a shorter life. If you have a generator and switch back to positive ground, then you will have to repolarize the generator to get it to work. If it has been converted to 12 volts with an alternator replacing the generator then it will have to be negative ground.
