I did an in-frame overhaul of a 706 gas a few years ago with the same problem. The one I bought had been torn down by the owner with little or no engine experience. He used the wrong size sleeve puller and when the sleeve had moved up to the block casting it caught the lip of the cylinder that extends down. Of course it broke out the same chunk as yours has missing. He was unsure of what to do so it sat for 3 or 4 years. I bought it as a "basketcase". I filled the block with water to check for leaks. No problem. Then I took a chance and bought a overhaul kit. It has ran fine for several years. The sleeve just extends past that break with no support. For me it was worth the risk. Good luck.
