My original '53 has the same rear light as you describe. The front are not exactly teardrop shape. Originaly they had a 6V sealed beam lamp with a nipple protruding through a hole in the rear to connect the wires to. This bulb type is expensive. The IH dealer had a somewhat flatter 6V sealed beam by GE that has screw terminals on the back. The wires go in the rear housing hole and connect to the bulb. They mount with the original rubber ring. A pretty good near original solution I thought.
