Whiskers I am not an expert on the liftall pump gizzards. It should, however, let the 3 point down gently as you slowly push in the rod. I use to have a New Idea loader on Old Red H. The lever would let it down gently even with a full load. If I shoved the lever forward, it would of course come crashing down. From looking at the parts book, I would speculate that the relief spring/ball assembly is weak which is giving you no control in lowering the 3 point in a controlled manner.
