If want to use this method and have a start switch (alot of times a new key switch was added at the time of tweleve volt conversion) with OFF-RUN-START poistions and an electric starter, you can run an extra wire from the START poistion directly to the coil. The resistor is placed inline between the RUN position and the coil. This way the coil gets twelve volts when starting and when the switch moves back to RUN it gets 6V thus prolonging coil and point life. This saves having to use the pliers and is a lot more graceful. This won't work when hand cranking, because the start position is momentary, it moves to run as soon as you let go unless someone holds the key while it is cranked. A better alternative in that case would be to mount a toggle swith up front to jump out the resistor when cranking, then flip it off when it starts. --Daniel
