Jim, Start in the middle of the head and tighten each bolt working back and forth from one side of the head to the other in a zig-zag pattern and working out towards the ends of the head. First pass tighten the bolts to 45-50 ft. lbs. Then on final pass take them to the recommended 65 ft pounds using the back and forth and out towards the ends method. You should always go back and re-torque the head after about 2-5 hours of running time. You'll be amazed at how loose they will get. Don't forget to reset the valve lash each time you retorque the head.
