If you have a regulator, you do not use the resistor. The resistor is used to set the charge rate when you have the cutout relay and no regulator. On the regulator, field goes to the F terminal on the generator. Gen goes to the Armature (ARM) or gen terminal on the Generator. Battery goes to the hot battery terminal, usually through the ammeter. Battery connected to one side of the ammeter and the regulator "bat" terminal to the other side of the ammeter. The L terminal on the regulator is for "lights" or "load". You do not have to connect anything to it. Normally, the lights are just connected to the battery or to the ammeter terminal. On a 6 volt, usually the system is positive ground and the negative battery terminal is the "hot" terminal. You may need to polarize the generator. This is doen by momentarily Jumping a wire from the bat terminal on the regulator to the gen terminal. You will see a small spark. DO NOT touch any other terminals or ground any of the regulator terminals, or you may ruin the regulator or the generator.
