High tech fix?

Yesterday I hooked up the brush hog to my C and took off for another farm to do some work. Before I left I refilled with anti-freeze/water mix. About half way there I looked behind me to find a fluid trail. As I looked under the front I saw a stream of coolant coming out. Luckily I made it to my destination (about 8 miles). I found I had nearly broken the drain tube off in the casting when I tightened the plug someone had fashioned. Thought my day was over. Then it occurred to me that this was not a pressurized system. A "stick" of the right diameter allowed me to work the rest of the day without losing any water supplied by a nearby stream. Now to remove the culprit and repair.
