I,m not familliar with your electrical system to answer your tach question. If you have a local dealer you might try borrowing a Fluke 78 digital multimeter. You can get an inductive pickup for the meter and test any four or two stroke engine rpm. If you wanted to buy the meter with inductive pickup, it will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $300. That's why unless you plan to use the meter all the time I would try and borrow one.
