It is my understanding that the H was originally introduced as a high compression engine. Several changes were made over the years. Some of these changes I'm not fully clear on when and what these changes were. My H's are all original, early models. Trial and error will put you in the right weight class depending on how much power you end up with. As for tires it is a proven fact that lugs, either steal or rubber, will rob you of power. Their is one critical key though, and that is that they are like weight and will aid in traction. My advice is to expirament with tire tread after you decide on your weight class. Your weight needs to be decided first because if your weight changes your traction needs to change to compensate. Your pulling track also has big difference in how your tread is going to work. The softer the track the more traction and power you are going to need. The harder the surface of the track the less traction and power you are going to need to pull the same. Lugs are more hap to dig a whole when you spin than smooth tires. There's something to think about. Good luck.
