I use Rector Seal No. 5. You can get it at the plumbing department at any building supply store. It is a Teflon emulsion, works just as good as teflon tape, and you don't have to worry about pieces of Teflon tape getting into anything and causing a stoppage. Of course that would not be a factor regards the transmission plug. Also with the Rector Seal, the threads will not seize up and it is easy to get things back apart.
