Moe, I have three the the older I-H Diesel tractor a 400, a 600 and a TD9. All three have very reliable and economical to operate. Rebuilding any diesel engine comparied to a gas engine will be more expensive. The difference is that the diesel usually will last longer if you maintain it properly. As far as head problems, I have a lot of hours on these three tractors and have not had any head problems. If you have an operators manuel and follow it you will not have any problems. The governor response is a lot sharper than on a gas engine and under load sure sound good. If you have your pump set right you will get a little puff of smoke as the governor fluctuates under load.
