I'm looking for help!!

Hello,I just split my 59 350 utility in half to flip the ring gear.It went back together pretty well,and did'nt have to force anything.The problem is,I can turn the engine one direction by hand but not the other.Plugs are out, tractors in nuetral.Should I be able to turn the engine both directions.I know this sounds kinda basic but I just can't figure if it's right or not.Thanks for anything you might be able to tell me.
