Lowell - You can easily and safely lock the transmission by engaging two gears at once: First knock the pivot pin out at the base of the shift lever tower and remove the shift lever. Then take a large screwdriver or pry bar and slide any two shift rails into gear. Best choice is reverse with the right hand and 2nd with the middle rail (move both of 'em toward the BACK), but any selection using 2 shift rails will lock the trans. Be sure to cover the shift lever opening so nothing falls in, and make sure all three shift rails are back in neutral (center position) before replacing the shift lever.
